Start by rinsing the blueberries and removing any debris or stems from them. Add blueberries, sugar, and 1/4 cup water to a small saucepan and allow to slowly cook until ingredients are incorporated.
The sugar should be fully dissolved This will look a little like a blueberry compote. Set aside and allow to cool.
Add matcha and 1/4 cup water to a small bowl and whisk together until light and foamy. You can use either a bamboo whisk or an electric whisk.
Once the blueberries are cooked and cooled, divide the blueberry compote between two cups. Next, add a scoop of ice to each cup, pour over the milk, and top with foamy matcha.
Enjoy this delicious sip with a straw!
- Use high-quality matcha green tea.
- Be careful not to use hot water for whisking your matcha. Matcha is best when made with water at a lower temperature.
Not of fan of the cooked blueberry texture? You can strain out the cooked berries, pressing down on them to squeeze out all the juice and just use the sweetened blueberry syrup in your latte.
- Adjust sweetness to taste – Depending on your personal preference, you can adjust the amount of sugar used in this recipe. If you want a sweeter latte, add more sugar to the blueberry compote or serve with an additional sprinkle of sugar on top. On the other hand, if this drink is too sweet for your taste then use less sugar. Blueberries are naturally sweet so just a little sweetener can go a long way.
- Use homemade oat milk – Homemade oat milk is a delicious alternative to dairy and provides a creamy texture to the latte.
- Serve immediately – Blueberry matcha lattes are best enjoyed fresh.
- If you don’t have fresh blueberries available you can substitute with frozen blueberries.
