Lavender chai tea latte is a cozy tea latte flavored with chai spices and lavender. This combination of floral and spicy is simply perfection! Enjoy hot as a cozy drink to curl up with in the winter, or serve over ice as a refreshing afternoon pick me up!
Add all the spices and lavender buds to a mortar. Using the pestle, gently crush the spices to release their oils and flavors.
Pour the spices into a small pot and pour over water. Simmer on low for about 10 minutes. Turn off the heat and add in tea. Cover and steep for 5 minutes. Strain out spices and tea into a small heat-safe pitcher. Stir in honey.
Heat milk to about 150°F. Foam milk until it has about doubled in size.
To serve, pour tea into a serving cup and top with frothed milk. Add a sprinkle of cinnamon to garnish if desired.
Notes
Selecting Lavender: Only use culinary-grade lavender.
If you are looking for a refreshing iced chai, after allowing the tea to cool, pour over ice! Enjoy. TIP: use tea iced cubes to keep your drink from watering down as the ice melts.
Crushing Spices: When crushing the spices, don’t overdo it. You want to release their oils and fragrances, not turn them into a powder.
Steeping Time: The steeping time for your tea can alter the flavor. A longer steep may result in a stronger, more robust profile, but be careful not to over-steep as this can lead to bitterness.
Adding Sweetness: Feel free to add a sweetener to your liking. Honey, agave syrup, or a sugar substitute can be used. Remember, it’s always easier to add more, so start with a smaller amount and taste as you go.
Milk Choices: You can use any milk or milk alternative in this recipe. Almond or oat milk can give a little extra sweetness, while dairy milk gives a richer texture.
Frothing Milk: If you don’t have a milk frother, you can also whisk the milk vigorously in a saucepan over low heat.
Garnish: A sprinkle of dried lavender buds or a cinnamon stick can add a beautiful touch to the presentation of your latte.
Serving Size: This recipe makes one large or two more modestly sized lattes. If you’re preparing for more people, simply double or triple the recipe as needed.
