- 1 Tablespoon Honey
- 5-10 Star Anise
- 1-2 Cups Water
Add about 10 star anise to a mortar and grind them using a pestle. You want them to be roughly ground to release all their spicy goodness.
Add the spice to a small pot with water, boil, and simmer on low for 10 minutes.
After tea is fully infused strain through a fine mesh strainer.
Finally, stir in honey to your liking. This step is entirely optional, but a little sweetness can nicely add a little balance.
- Flavor Variation: Feel free to experiment by adding a cinnamon stick or a few cloves during the simmering process for an extra flavor kick.
- Health Benefits: Star anise is not just flavorful; it’s also believed to have health benefits as well. Read more about that here.
- Storage Tip: Make a big batch and store the tea in the fridge. It tastes great cold or reheated.
- Serving Suggestion: For a refreshing twist, serve your star anise tea over ice on hot days.
- Sweetener Alternatives: If honey isn’t your thing, maple syrup or a splash of agave nectar are delightful substitutes.
