Ingredients

  • 1 Taro Root
  • 1 Teaspoon Jasmine Green Tea
  • 4 Tablespoons Sweetened Condensed Milk
  • 1 Cup Milk
  • 2 Cups Water divided
  • 2 Drops Food Coloring

Instructions

Cook Taro

  • Peel the taro and chop it into cubes. A small to medium-sized root will yield about 1/2 cup. This doesn’t have to be exact.
  • Add 1 cup of water to a small pot with the cubed taro root. Cook over low heat until the taro is cooked through. You will be able to easily mash the root with a fork when it is cooked.

Make Tea

  • Bring water to about 170°F on the stove or in an electric kettle. Add tea leaves into a teapot and pour over 1 cup of hot water. Allow the tea to steep for 3 minutes before straining out the tea leaves.

Blend

  • Add all the cooked taro and cooking water, prepared tea, sweetened condensed milk, and optional food coloring to the blender and blend until well combined.

Steam and Foam Milk

  • Steam and Foam milk using an electric or handheld frothing wand.

Assemble Drink

  • Pour tea from the blender into one large or two standard-size cups. Top with milk.

Enjoy!

    Notes

(Taro root should always be cooked and never eaten raw. Taro skins especially may be toxic and cause an allergic reaction. If this happens to you stop right away and wash your hands and call your doctor.)
    • You can make this an iced taro latte by pouring the drink over ice. It is delicious and refreshing! No need to heat your milk for this option.
    • Make it vegan by using plant-based milk such as coconut milk or almond milk.
    • I often use coconut-sweetened condensed milk as a vegan option. It adds more flavor and tastes amazing!
    • You can use food coloring to color your drink or leave it out. You can also use natural colorings such as purple potato powder or beet powder.
