Dried Rose Hip Tea
I love a cup of this tea in the evening, especially during the winter. It is a beautiful deep pink-orange color and tastes floral and fruity. Beyond a wonderful flavor, it is also full of health benefits!
What is Rosehip tea?
Rose Hip Tea is made from wild rose hips which are considered the fruit or seed pod of the rose plant. They can range in color from orange, red, purple, or black. When the rose’s hips are dried their color deepens even more. They are considered ready for harvest at the end of the season, around late summer or early fall. Rose hips are hearty fruit and will linger on the plant until pruned or harvested. All rose hips are edible but the rugosa roses are known best for their delightful taste. Rosehip tea is made from dried and properly prepared rosehips. They are also often used to make syrups, jams, and jellies.
Ingredients for Rosehip Tea
- Rose Hips – Many people enjoy foraging their own rose hips, but I chose to purchase organic dried wild rose hips.
- Water – Any water will work for brewing a cup, but filtered water for the best and purest taste.
- Honey – this is optional, but I enjoy a teaspoon of raw honey stirred into my tea. It complements the natural fruitiness of the wild rose. It can also taste a bit tart to some and honey helps to complement that. Or try this rosehip syrup recipe!
