The best practice is to use the tea within 8 hours, but if you don’t plan to serve this tea right away you can store the tea and syrup in separate containers in the refrigerator overnight.

What is Tamarind?

Tamarind is a tropical tree native to Africa, with its edible fruit containing a unique flavor that is both sweet and sour.

With its sweet and sour taste, it is not surprising that this ingredient is used to flavor both sweet and savory dishes. I am excited to share another way to use tamarind – for flavoring iced tea!

What Does Tamarind Taste Like?

Tamarind has a unique and exciting flavor! It is a tart fruit that has a deep flavor some described with notes of caramel, molasses, and brown sugar. This tartness is balanced by the sweetness of the tamarind, making it an ideal ingredient for both savory and sweet dishes. I think tamarind tastes similar to a date that is both sweet and sour.
