What is Lychee?
Originating from Southeast Asia, lychee is a small, round fruit with a sweet floral taste. It contains a decent size pit seed in the middle. You may also find these fruit with the spelling lichi, or litchi. When blended with the robust flavor of tea, and served chilled over ice, it creates a uniquely refreshing drink that tastes sweet and tropical. Fresh Lychee Iced Tea! (Recipe and Guide)
Ready for a fresh new iced tea recipe? Using just a handful of ingredients, you’ll be able to craft a drink that is as beautiful to look at as it is to sip. The secret to the perfect lychee iced tea is in its simplicity, preparing the few ingredients perfectly.
Ingredients in Lychee Iced Tea

- Fresh Lychee Fruit (about 9 – not all are pictured as I used too many before photographing.)
- 1/2 Cup Sugar
- 1/2 cup Water (for Syrup)
- 8 Cups of Water (for Tea)
- 8 Green Tea Bags (I used sencha green tea)

- Mason Jar
- Measuring cups and spoons
- Large pitcher
How to Make Lychee Iced Tea
Make Tea
Bring 8 cups of water to just under a boil, about 175- 180 degrees. ( Pro Tip: Use an electric kettle to get the exact temperature. ) Add 8 tea bags to your teapot and pour over water. Cover the tea and allow to steep for 3-5 minutes. Remove tea bags squeezing out excess liquid. (PRO TIP: use tea bag tongs to save fingers from the hot water!) Allow the tea to cool completely. You can put the tea in the fridge to help it cool off quickly with the lid slightly ajar to let out the steam.
Make Lychee Syrup
Peel and remove the seeds from the lychees. (This is easier said than done!) Add lychee, sugar, and 1/2 cup water to a small pot and cook over low heat until the sugar has dissolved.

Let the mixture steep and extract all the flavors for another 10-15 minutes.

Strain out the fruit and transfer the syrup to a heat-safe jar.

Once both syrup and tea are cool, mix together in a large pitcher.
Serve
Serve lychee tea over ice and garnish with fresh fruit and mint!
