What is Cheese Tea?
Cheese tea is gaining more popularity around the world. So what is it? Similar to sweet cold foam, cheese foam is whipped into a light fluffy cloud. The cheese element of this foam is cream cheese lending a sweet and salty flair to the tea.
Taste
Imagine an iced cold tea topped with an airy light foamy layer of whipped cheesecake. So delicate that it sits in a smooth creamy layer above of your tea. That is the best description I can give for this tea. Some drink with a straw to combine the foam with tea in each sip. Others drink from the side of the glass. Either way, it is a delicious tea that is lightly sweetened and most often served over unsweetened iced tea.
Ingredients in Cheese Foam Tea
To make your own cheese foam you will need a few specific ingredients. I am sharing the exact brands that I used, but you may use your favorites as desired.
- Silk Heavy Cream – This plant-based heavy whipping cream perfectly whips into whipped cream. It is unsweetened leaving you the option to sweeten as desired.
- Daiya Cream Cheese – Another vegan favorite, this cream cheese is smooth and silky lending a luxurious texture to the cheese foam.
- Sugar – Regular granulated table sugar is great for this recipe! I recommend avoiding simple syrup or any sweeteners that would add liquid and interfere with the character of the cheese foam.
- Vanilla – Vanilla extract or vanilla paste is great in this recipe. You can also leave it out if you would like.
- Salt – Just a pinch is necessary for this sweet and salty tea.
How to Make Cheese Tea
Start by prepping all your ingredients. The cream cheese should be at room temperature so that it will cream without leaving any lumps. Heavy cream should be cold and left in the refrigerator until time to use.
- Prepare Tea – Start by preparing your tea and allowing it to cool completely. Or try cold brewing!
- Cream – Next, cream together cream cheese and optional sugar and vanilla. Mix until fully incorporated and silky with no lumps.
- Whip – Now it is time to whip the heavy cream into light and fluffy clouds. I use a handheld frother to whip the cream. The cream can be over whipped so watch it carefully. Once the cream begins to thicken soft peaks form the cream is ready. This is more “runny” than fully whipped cream.
- Mix – Gently fold the cream into the cream cheese mixture. It should be fully incorporated and have a soft balance of think foam. This foam should be thick and light enough to float on the top of the glass but runny enough to pour. If the cream was over-whipped and too stiff, try adding a tablespoon of almond milk to help thin the mixture out a bit.
- Serving – If desired add a handful of ice to the glass. Pour 1 cup of unsweetened cold tea into the serving glass. Top with a layer of cheese foam. Serve with or without a straw.

Recipe Notes

- Play around with the amount of time whipping the cream. Overwhipping can lead to whipped cream that is too stiff, while under whipping the cream will be too runny.
- Try cold brewing your tea.
