How to Make Goldenrod Tea – Easy, Healthy, and Delicious!

If you love discovering new ways to bring a little wellness into your routine, goldenrod tea might just become your next kitchen favorite. This herbal tea is easy to make and brings a bright, earthy flavor to your cup. If you’ve seen goldenrod blooming in late summer and early fall and wondered if it’s good for anything beyond brightening up a field, you’re in for a treat!

Why Goldenrod?

Goldenrod (Solidago) is more than a pretty wildflower. Traditionally used by herbalists to help ease seasonal allergies or mild throat discomfort, it can also be enjoyed as a delicious tea. (source)

What You’ll Need

water, honey, goldenrod flowers
  • Fresh or dried goldenrod flowers and leaves
  • Water
  • (Optional) Honey or lemon for serving
  • Teapot, French press, or heatproof jar
  • Fine mesh strainer

Pro Tip: Foraging goldenrod? Make sure you have the right plant (not ragweed!) and always gather from a pesticide-free area.

Step-By-Step Goldenrod Tea Recipe

1. Harvest or Acquire Goldenrod

If you’re picking your own, choose vibrant, fully-bloomed goldenrod during late summer or early fall. You can use both the flowers and leaves for tea. If foraging isn’t your thing, many health stores and herbal shops sell dried goldenrod.

2. Prepare the Goldenrod

  • Rinse the flowers and leaves gently under cool water.
  • Pat them dry with a clean towel.
  • Use about 1 to 2 teaspoons of dried goldenrod (or double that if using fresh) per cup of tea.

3. Boil Water

Bring water to a gentle boil. You’ll need about 1 cup (8 oz) per serving. (I LOVE using an electric kettle for making tea!

4. Brew Your Tea

  • Place the goldenrod in your teapot or French press.
  • Pour hot water over the herbs.
  • Cover and steep for 10–15 minutes. The longer it steeps, the stronger the flavor.

5. Strain and Serve

Pour the tea through a fine mesh strainer into your favorite mug. Add honey or a squeeze of lemon if you like a twist of sweetness or brightness.
