two tea cups of matcha latte

I used to feel a little intimidated by the idea of making my own lattes. It sounded complicated and expensive. Though, that couldn’t be farther from the truth. I whipped up this super healthy and super delicious matcha latte in only about 5 minutes. I enjoy knowing exactly what is going into my tea and it is very economical.

What is a Matcha Latte?

A matcha latte combines matcha green tea with milk and honey for an amazing creamy sweet latte that tastes balanced and wonderful! Matcha is an earthy tea so I like to use honey to match its profile and add a bit of sweetness. To complete the latte, I added a dash of homemade vanilla.

Why You Will Love This Tea

What is in a Matcha Latte?

  • Matcha Green Tea Powder -Matcha green tea is a delicious green tea. Unlike regular green tea which is steeped with water and then the tea solids are removed before consuming, in matcha tea, the entire leaf is consumed. Because of this reason, be sure to purchase high-quality matcha tea.
  • Water – I think filtered water makes the best-tasting tea. Good water = good tea!
  • Oatmilk – Oatmilk is my favorite plant-based milk and I think it is perfect for this recipe. Feel free to use your favorite milk.
  • Honey – I use raw organic honey in this recipe. (See below for a completely vegan option) Honey is full of health benefits so I chose to use it in this recipe.
  • Vanilla – My mother-in-law gifts me homemade vanilla each year for Christmas and it is my favorite. Feel free to use whatever you have on hand. (Try this vanilla matcha latte recipe next time!)

Matcha tea is made from green tea leaves which are ground into a very fine powder.

Matcha Tea Benefits

In this tea, the health benefits are magnified because the entire tea leaf is consumed. One of my favorite benefits of matcha green tea is that matcha contains almost as much caffeine as coffee but the caffeine is absorbed more slowly so you can enjoy the energy boost without the crash or shakes that can be common with coffee consumption. More possible positive health benefits include: (source)

  • Rich with antioxidants.
  • May boost metabolism.
  • May boost brain function.
  • Aids in immune function.

  • Good for your skin.
  • Aids in natural detoxification.
  • Energy from caffeine without a crash.
