Iced Chai Latte
I love to order a Starbucks iced chai latte, but sometimes realistically, making this at home is the better option. It is economical; literally less than half the price of a coffee shop, and saves so much time on the road and waiting in line. Making your own Starbucks copycat is fairly simple when using a chai concentrate. This recipe uses Tazo chai concentrate which contains black tea, warm spices, and sweetener. Making this iced tea latte is as simple as measuring the concentrate, pouring over ice, and topping with creamy milk for a decedent drink. When it is 102 degrees outside I think it calls for an iced drink, and this chai is a sure winner!
Chai Tea Latte or Marsala Chai Latte?
The popular name – chai tea latte is technically incorrect and actually a misnomer. Chai means tea so when calling a chai latte a chai tea latte, is it just repeating the word tea. This wonderful blend of spices used in a tea latte could more appropriately be called marsala chai latte, translated literally as spiced tea latte.

What is in an Iced Chai Tea Latte?
The name says it all. A delicious chai latte, iced! This recipe for iced chai is simple and only uses 2 ingredients. To make this recipe, you will only need to use chai concentrate and milk. Using a chai concentrate saves time making black tea mixing it with spices pulling all those amazing complex ingredients into one simple delicious blend.
Ingredients
- Chai Concentrate– for this recipe I used Tazo Chai Latte concentrate. This chai concentrate includes black tea, chai spices, and both sugar and honey to sweeten. You can use this brand or make your own.
- Milk – Use any type of milk you like including dairy milk, and plant-based. For an extra creamy latte try half and half or a blend of half and half and milk.
- Ice – This is exact but about a handful of ice is perfect to keep this latte nice and chilled.
- Brown Sugar Simple Syrup (optional) Depending upon my mood for the day, I might be craving a bit sweeter drink. To satisfy that sweet tooth you can add 1-2 teaspoons of brown sugar simple syrup. Brown sugar syrup is important to keep with the flavor of this drink. Since the chai concentrate is already sweetened, only light use of syrup is necessary.

Recipe Notes
- Tazo Chai Latte Concentrate is minimally sweetened. If you like a sweeter tea try adding a bit of simple syrup. Use brown sugar simple syrup. I suggest starting with just a teaspoon and adding more if desired. Tea can become too sweet quickly.
- If you are using a non-sweetened chai concentrate, you can enjoy your tea unsweetened or add your own. Start with adding 1-2 tablespoons of brown sugar simple syrup. Since this recipe is not heated, a simple syrup with mix perfectly with your cold tea. An undissolved sugar with not mix as early and might result in sugar granules at the bottom of your glass.
- If possible, pour a tea latte over large ice cubes. Smaller cubes and crushed ice will melt quickly resulting in watered-down tea.
- Make this recipe vegan by using plant-based milk. My favorite is full-fat oat milk, but almond milk, cashew milk, or soy milk are also good options.
