Although lemon honey tea is not a true tea, (unless you decide to add black tea or green tea) it has many comforting and healing qualities of tea.

I like to drink a cup in the evening while I relax and unwind from the day. Generally, most people can enjoy this tea on a daily basis and many use it to soothe and relieve cold symptoms.

What is Lemon Tea?

A blend of the perfect combination of sweetness and acidity, this soothing tea is made with just lemon, honey, and hot water.

Ingredients

  • Lemon – Use fresh lemons or lemon juice, the choice is yours. I tend to use prepared lemon juice as it is less messy and the taste is not compromised.
  • Honey – I like to use raw organic honey purchased locally, although any honey will do!
  • Water – Don’t overlook this simple ingredient. Good-tasting water always makes the best tea! When possible, use filtered or spring water.

Variations:

You can make this tea even more dynamic with any of these variations!

  • Add ginger- lemon ginger tea is an amazing tea and adding ginger into the mix only makes this tea more powerful. Fresh ginger is always best but you can use dried ground ginger as well.
  • Add black tea! Place 1 tea bag or 1 teaspoon of your favorite black tea (I like English Breakfast, Earl Grey, or Lady Grey) in your hot water and steep for 5 minutes. Add lemon and honey.
  • Add green tea. Green tea is full of health benefits and lemon and honey only enhance those benefits, not to mention the taste! For a floral-infused green tea, flavor try Jasmine green tea.
  • Chamomile – I love a cup of chamomile tea, especially in the evenings. Adding a bit of lemon elevates the cup even more.
  • Turn it into medicine ball tea! This popular tea is a favorite to comfort and warm especially during the winter months.

Health Benefits

Lemon Tea is full of nutrition and health benefits!

  • Lemons- are full of vitamin C, antioxidants, and fiber. Research suggests it may support digestive health, weight control, heart health, boost the immune system, and increase iron absorption, just to name a few!
  • Honey – although it is added to this tea as a sweetener to balance out the sour taste of lemons, it can also boast its own right to many health benefits! Honey is very helpful to soothe a raw or sore throat. It is a  great source of antioxidants and research also suggests that honey can help treat many digestive issues. It should also be noted that honey can also be used as a topical treatment for certain wounds or as an antibacterial or antifungal treatment.

Caution: Never give honey to a child under the age of one. For any questions or concerns on honey, always consult your doctor.
