matcha lemonade recipe

Making matcha lemonade is so easy, I can hardly call it a recipe. It starts with whisking matcha green tea powder with a small amount of water until it is smooth and foamy. Then it is poured over your favorite lemonade, store-bought or homemade, for a delicious cool drink! You can mix the matcha and lemonade together for a fun green-colored lemonade, but I like to leave it unmixed to show off the beautiful layers.

What is Matcha?

Matcha is a type of powdered green tea that is popular in Japan and other parts of the world. The leaves are shaded in the last weeks before harvest to increase their chlorophyll content, and then they are picked, steamed, dried, and ground into a fine powder. Matcha is full of nutrients like antioxidants. When combined with lemonade, it creates a refreshing twist on the traditional beverage!

Recipe Notes and Tips

  • Make sure to use filtered water for the matcha, ice cubes, and lemonade to ensure the best taste.
  • You can also add honey to sweeten the drink or add more lemon juice for a tart flavor.
  • Make only enough for one sitting. For maximum freshness, I try not to make it too much in advance. Because it is so easy to make, I only make one batch at a time!
  • Use high-quality matcha from a trusted, reputable source. For starters, try looking for high-grade ceremonial matcha from Japan. It should be a rich green color, and smooth feel or texture.
  • Use your favorite lemonade!

How to Serve

Matcha Lemonade is best served over ice in a tall glass with a straw. For an extra special touch, you can garnish the drink with fresh lemon slices. To ensure that your matcha lemonade tastes its best, it’s important to use filtered water for the matcha, ice cubes, and lemonade.

Storage and Shelf Life

Matcha Lemonade is best served fresh, but any leftovers should be stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container. The drink can last up to 3 days in the refrigerator, however, it’s best enjoyed on the same day it’s made.

Health Benefits, Side Effects, and Risks of Matcha Lemonade

As with any health or wellness routine, it is always best to consult with your trusted medical professional first!

Matcha Lemonade Benefits

Matcha lemonade is gaining popularity as a refreshing and flavorful beverage, but it also provides many health benefits. Green tea matcha powder contains high levels of antioxidants, which may help reduce inflammation and protect against cell damage. The combination of matcha and lemon juice may also help aid in digestion, as the citric acid in the lemon can help stimulate digestion enzymes.

Risks and Side-Effects

On the other hand, matcha lemonade does contain caffeine so it may cause side effects for some people. Therefore, those who are sensitive to caffeine should consume matcha lemonade in moderation.

Why You Will Love this Matcha Lemonade!

  • Matcha lemonade is the perfect summer drink: refreshing, light, and oh-so-delicious! With a vibrant green hue and a subtle sweet-tart flavor, this unique concoction will delight your taste buds and tantalize your senses.

FAQs

What does Matcha taste like?

Matcha is a type of green tea powder that has been around for centuries, originating in Japan. It has a distinct, earthy flavor with a slight sweetness and herbaceousness.

Is Matcha Lemonade Good for You?

Matcha Lemonade is a delicious and refreshing way to enjoy the benefits of matcha green tea. It contains high levels of antioxidants that can help reduce inflammation and protect against cell damage, as well as citric acid from the lemon juice which may aid in digestion. Additionally, due to its caffeine content, matcha can provide an energy boost and improve mental clarity.

Can You Make Matcha Lemonade Ahead of Time?

Yes! Matcha Lemonade is best enjoyed fresh, however, any leftovers should be stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container. The drink can last up to 3 days in the refrigerator, however, it’s best enjoyed on the same day it’s made.

Do Lemon and Matcha go together?

Yes! Lemon and matcha are a great flavor combination! The two ingredients, when combined, create a unique balance of earthy, sweet, and tart flavors.

What are the Disadvantages of Matcha?

Matcha can have some disadvantages that should be taken into account before consumption. People sensitive to caffeine may experience side effects. Additionally, poor-quality matcha may taste too bitter for enjoyment. It is essential to find high-grade or ceremonial matcha from a reputable source when making your selection.

How to Make Matcha without a Whisk?

There are a few methods for making matcha if you do not have a bamboo whisk. The first is my favorite and the one I use the most.

  • To make matcha without a bamboo whisk uses a shaker bottle with a ball whisk. Add ingredients to the blender bottle. Shake vigorously until combined and no visible lumps are seen.
  • Use an electric frother to make matcha. Add water and matcha into a safe container for your handheld frother and froth until combined and foamy bubbles form at the top.
  • Use your blender. This method is better if you have a larger amount you want to mix, but still, it gets the job done! Add ingredients into the blender and blend until combined.

How to Make Matcha Taste Good?

Matcha can defiantly be an acquired taste. To start drinking matcha, consider using it to make a latte or this matcha lemonade recipe to familiarize yourself with the taste.

Where to get Matcha Powder?

Very fortunately matcha is easily purchased at almost any supermarket and online! As we’ve covered in other sections, unfortunately, there are probably as many low-quality options on the market as there are high-quality options. Matcha is not an ingredient to skimp on cost as the taste will just not be the same. Look for a ceremonial grade matcha that is from Japan. It should be a bright color with a smooth texture and taste with no bitterness.
