What is Oolong Milk Tea?

Oolong is a beautiful tea. While it originated in China, is it also grown in Taiwan. Its name means black dragon in Chinese.

Oolong tea is a category all to itself. A true tea from the Camellia Sinensis plant, oolong varies from black or green tea by the amount of oxidization it goes through. While green tea has very little oxidation and black tea is fully oxidized, oolong falls in-between at about 10-80%. Oolong is a very complex tea and each tea can fluctuate from light to full-bodied depending upon the mode from the tea master.

What does Oolong Tea Taste Like?

This tea is so complex and its flavors can range quite a bit. Depending upon its oxidation levels and how it is prepared, oolong tea can taste more like green tea with earthy vegetational tones to more floral hints or a buttery nuttiness with full-bodied flavor.

Why you will love this tea?

  • It’s complex flavor.
  • Super delicious.
  • Health benefits.

What is in Oolong Milk Tea?

You can also use tea bags but the general consensus is that loose leaves are best. If you feel intimidated by loose leaves, check out my easy guide to brewing loose tea leaves here!
  • Milk – whole milk or planted-based milk will work fine here.
  • Water – chose a filtered or spring water if possible. Fresh filtered water tastes best in tea.
  • Honey – Enjoy the sweet earthiness of honey with this milk tea recipe.
  • Boba – Boba, or sometimes called tapioca pearls, are made with tapioca flour and rolled in tiny balls, these chewy bits of deliciousness are addictive! This ingredient is optional.
