What is Cinnamon Milk Tea?

Milk tea is just tea with milk. There are many recipes for milk tea using a variety of ingredients to make their own special recipe. Popular milk teas you might have heard of include chai or bubble tea.

This recipe for cinnamon milk with tea is rich and creamy using full-fat milk, sweetener, and cinnamon to make a delightful drink with everyone’s favorite holiday season spice!

About Cinnamon

  • Cinnamon is a widely popular spice used to flavor sweet and savory dishes alike as well as drinks such as cocktails, teas, and coffee. A prized spice in ancient times, it was often reserved for royalty or religious practices.
  • Cinnamon is harvested from the inner bark of the tree. When it dries, it naturally rolls up to form the cinnamon sticks we purchase at the supermarket.
  • Cinnamon comes from the genus Cinnamomum. There are several varieties of cinnamon trees grown over the world. Some say only Cinnamomum verum is the true cinnamon. This variety is native to Sri Lanka. This cinnamon can also be labeled Ceylon cinnamon.
  • Cinnamon is also grown in China, India, and South America. While there are many varieties of cinnamon, most are simply labeled only “cinnamon” for resale.

Tips for the Best Tea Flavor

  • Cinnamon is the star of this tea, but using too much can also be overpowering. If you are a huge cinnamon fan and want to use more than the recipe calls for, I suggest starting with a little bit and slowly adding more to suit your taste.
  • Use good water! Good water makes good tea!
  • Use the correct water temperature to properly prepare your tea.
  • Steep your tea covered for the full 5 minutes.
  • If you like a strong tea, consider using a second tea bag, or 1 teaspoon more of loose leaves. Over-steeping tea to get a stronger flavor just makes the tea bitter, and not always stronger in flavor.
  • If you love this milk tea, try this herbal cinnamon tea!

Storing Tea

This recipe is best consumed fresh and warm, right after preparing it. If you find yourself needing to store your tea, you can cover it and refrigerate it.

Hot Cinnamon Spice Tea with Milk Ingredients

  • Cinnamon –
  • Full-Fat Oat Milk – In this recipe, I personally use full-fat oat milk, but you can also use your favorite milk. See variations below for more ideas!
  • Tea – For your tea, choose a bold black tea such as English Breakfast, or Irish Breakfast. I use tea bags in this recipe as it makes it simple and easy to steep and remove the tea.
  • Regular Granulated Sugar or Simple Syrup – I almost always use brown sugar in my tea as it tastes so rich and adds another layer of flavor. However, in this recipe, I found that brown sugar was to overpowering. I decided to use regular granulated sugar instead and that worked perfectly. You can also use a liquid sugar. See below for more variations if you would like to make this tea sugar-free.
