Ingredients

ingredients in thai latte, water, simple syrup, milk, and tea bags
  • Thai Tea Bags – For this recipe, I used 2 already mixed and flavored Thai tea bags. They consist of black tea, spices, and coloring for the classic orangish Thai tea.
  • Simple Syrup – When making tea lattes, using simple syrup is a great option for blending in sweetener! Try this super simple 2 ingredient recipe to make your own.
  • Milk – Any milk should work well for this recipe. I chose to use half and half for a luxurious latte.
  • Water

What is a Hot Thai Latte?

A Thai Latte, often interchangeable with a Thai Tea Latte, is a popular and cozy tea latte. This hot drink combines the robust flavors of Thai Tea – a unique blend of black tea infused with spices and tinted with food coloring to achieve its signature orange hue – with the creaminess of milk or half-and-half. The result is a full-flavored, smooth, and rich latte that is sweet, slightly spiced, and beautifully layered. The latte can be enjoyed hot or cold, and it stands out due to its striking color and exotic taste. Whether you’re seeking a warm, cozy drink for a quiet evening or a cool, refreshing pick-me-up on a hot afternoon, a Thai Latte provides an unparalleled experience.

Recipe Notes

  • Make it Vegan: Substitute with Almond, coconut, or oat milk to make this a Vegan Thai Tea Latte.
  • Sweetness Adjustment: The level of sweetness can be adjusted according to personal preference. If you prefer a less sweet latte, reduce the amount of simple syrup.
  • Storing: Thai Tea Latte can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. If you’ve added the milk, shake well before serving.
  • Reheating: If you want to enjoy your Thai Tea Latte warm, it can be reheated on the stove. Just ensure it doesn’t reach boiling point to prevent the milk from burning.
  • Serving Suggestions: This Thai Tea Latte is the hot version. It is meant to be served warm. However, for a cold version check out this recipe for an iced Thai latte or a Thai bubble tea.
  • Tea Bag Selection: The choice of a Thai Tea bag is crucial for the final flavor profile. Different brands offer varying degrees of spiciness, sweetness, and tea intensity. It’s worth trying a few to find your personal favorite.
  • DIY Simple Syrup: Making simple syrup at home is easy. Just combine equal parts of sugar and water and heat until the sugar dissolves.
  • Presentation Tip: For an Instagram-worthy latte, add a dollop of whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon on top before serving.
