Two of my favorite flavors are combined in this warm chocolate tea recipe! Chocolate tea is the perfect blend of tea and chocolate. This chocolate tea recipe is so easy to make at home with real flavors that are cozy and comforting. Chocolate tea starts with black tea, and vanilla, and is layered with chocolate and topped with milk.

What is Chocolate Tea?

Two of my favorite flavors are combined in this classic recipe -chocolate and tea! Chocolate tea is tea and chocolate and is made using a black tea base and adding chocolate for a rich decadent drink that completely satisfies any chocolate cravings. 

Made with real cocoa powder this recipe is free from artificial tastes that sometimes come with store-bought teas. Plus it is completely customizable and can be whipped up in a very short time!

For two servings:

  • 2 cups of water
  • 2 black tea bags or 2 teaspoons black tea
  • 2 tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons of sugar (sweeten to taste!)
  • 1 cup of milk (I find the whole-milk or full-fat oat milk tastes the best, but there are a variety of options)
  • Vanilla Extract or Vanilla Bean Paste
  • A pinch of salt (try pink Himalayan sea salt!)

  • A medium-sized saucepan or pot
  • A wooden spoon or whisk for stirring
  • A tea strainer or infuser (only for using loose-leaf tea)
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Mugs or teacups for serving

Simple Chocolate Tea Recipe 

How to Make Chocolate Tea

Heat the water in a pot until it comes to a boil. 

Add the black tea and let it steep for about 5 minutes. Remove tea solids.

Stir in the cocoa powder, vanilla, sugar, and a pinch of salt, ensuring there are no lumps.

Add the milk and stir continuously until combined.

Lower the heat and let simmer until warm and all the ingredients are combined.

Pour the tea into your favorite mugs.
