What are Butterfly Pea Flowers?

Butterfly pea flowers are lovely little blue vining flowers native to South East Asia. They have many names ranging from Asian pigoenwings, butterfly pea, or blue pea.

These handsome flowers are often used as a natural dye and will color most drinks and food it is infused with.

There are also many health benefits associated with these small flowers. Some research suggests it promotes hair and skin health as well as lower blood sugar levels.

What Does Butterfly Pea Latte Taste Like?

This latte has an earthy flavor similar to green tea but with little hints of floral. Its flavor is definitely unique, but don’t let that stop you from giving this tea latte a try! You might surprise yourself with how much you enjoy it!

Ingredients in Butterfly Pea Flower Latte

  • Butterfly Pea Flowers – Some use butterfly pea powder, but I prefer to brew a tea with dried butterfly pea flowers. These can easily be purchased online.
  • Milk – In this recipe you can use a regular whole milk, or it can be easily adaped to a vegan tea using a plant based milk. My favorite is oatmilk!
  • Sugar – Use regular granulated sugar in this recipe as it disolves easily and quickly! You can also easily substitute sugar for your favorite sweetener. Maple syrup, honey, or coconut sugar are all great options!
  • Vanilla – Just a dash, but it makes all the difference!
  • Water – Use good filtered water!
