Ingredients in Cardamom Tea

water and cardamom pods in bowl on counter
  • Water  – I like to use filtered water for my tea.
  • Whole Cardamom Pods, crushed
  • Honey – Raw organic honey is my favorite, but you can choose your favorite honey or substitute sweetener.

Optional Ingredients

  • Black Tea Leaves – Loose leaf or tea bags are fine here. (you can use any type of black tea you like, but Assam or Darjeeling works beautifully)
  • Milk – Use to your liking or substitute with almond, soy, or oat milk for a vegan version.
  • Ground Cinnamon or Ginger (optional, for an extra kick of flavor)

Start by adding whole cardamom pods to a mortar and pestle and lightly crush the pods.

Once the water has reached a boil, reduce the heat to low and allow the tea to simmer for about 8 minutes. (If you prefer stronger tea, leave it on the heat for an extra minute or two.)

Take the tea off the heat and let it cool enough to handle. (if using tea leaves, add tea here and allow to steep for 5 minutes)

Recipe Notes

  • Adjust Sweetness: Start with a small amount of honey and adjust to taste. Remember, it’s easier to add more sweetness than to take it away!
  • Crush Cardamom Pods Gently: Lightly crush the cardamom pods to release their flavor without turning them into a powder. This ensures your tea is infused with the perfect amount of cardamom goodness.
  • Simmering Time: For a stronger cardamom flavor, don’t hesitate to simmer the tea for a couple of extra minutes. However, keep an eye on it to avoid bitterness.
  • Milk is Optional: Adding milk can transform your cardamom tea into a creamy delight, but it’s just as delicious without it, especially if you prefer a lighter version.
  • Experiment with Spices: Feel free to add a pinch of ground cinnamon or ginger for an extra flavor kick. These spices complement cardamom beautifully and can add a new layer of warmth.
  • Tea Leaves Variation: If you’re incorporating black tea leaves, Assam or Darjeeling teas are recommended for their robust flavors, but feel free to use your favorite black tea.
  • Vegan Alternatives: For a vegan version, plant-based milks like almond, soy, or oat milk make excellent substitutes.
  • Storage Tips: Although best enjoyed fresh, you can store the brewed cardamom tea in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat gently before enjoying.

Serving

Now that your cardamom tea is piping hot and ready, it’s time to enjoy it in the best way possible. Find yourself a cozy spot, grab your favorite mug, and pour in this aromatic delight. If you’ve added milk, you’ll notice how it turns into a creamy, soothing beverage perfect for chilly mornings or relaxing evenings. Don’t forget, this tea pairs wonderfully with a good book or a peaceful moment of reflection. Whether you’re starting your day with a zest of energy or winding down after a long day, this cardamom tea is sure to elevate the moment, making it a little more special. Enjoy every sip and the lovely warmth it brings with it.

Store Your Cardamom Tea the Right Way

Wondering how to keep the leftovers? No worries, prepared cardamom tea can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Just make sure to keep it in a sealed container or a jar with a tight lid to maintain its aroma and freshness. If you notice your tea has lost a bit of its vibrant flavor or smells a bit off, just discard this batch and prepare a new one.
