Ingredients in a London Fog Drink

  • Earl Grey Tea – You can use your favorite brand of earl grey tea. Teavana, Harney and Sons, and Twinnings are popular brands. I’ve found that Trader Joe’s also has a great earl grey tea! Earl grey tea is a black tea flavored with bergamot. Each brand has its own unique touch, so try a few different ones to see what you like best. For this recipe, you can use loose-leaf or tea bags.
  • Milk – Use your favorite milk in this recipe. To make this recipe vegan or dairy-free, use unsweetened plant-based milk. Oat milk, almond milk, and soy milk are popular options. You can also make this recipe using full-fat dairy milk, or a combination of milk and half and half for an extra-rich luxurious tea latte.
  • Water – Don’t overlook the water that you use to make tea. Freshwater tastes better and I like to use either filtered or spring water to make my tea.
  • Vanilla – I used vanilla extract for this recipe and it was perfect.
  • Sugar – To make this recipe, I used regular granulated sugar. You could also use liquid cane sugar or vanilla syrup to sweeten this tea. If you prefer to avoid sugar, you could try stevia, honey, or even maple syrup.

How to Make a London Fog Drink

Making a professional London Fog Latte at home isn’t as hard as one might think and it doesn’t require a lot of fancy kitchen gadgets to get that coffee shop-worthy taste!

  • Make Tea – Prepare your tea by adding hot water to your teapot. Swirl around and discard. This heats up your pot and prepares it for steeping tea. Add tea to your warmed-up teapot and pour over the water. Cover and steep for 5 minutes. See here for a full guide on making tea in a teapot.
  • Stir in Sugar and Vanilla – Once your tea has finished steeping and while it is still very warm, add in sugar and vanilla and stir until the sugar has dissolved. Pour the tea into your serving cup.
  • Steam and Froth Milk – After steaming and frothing your milk, pour over tea and enjoy!

How to Steam and Froth Milk for the Perfect Tea Latte

Warming your milk and creating that perfect air-whisked foamy topping for your tea is the key to making your own tea shop-worthy lattes in your own kitchen! It keeps your drink hot longer and tastes so cozy and special. Fortunately, it is fairly simple to do at home.

If you have an electric milk steamer, that is a great option. If not, simply heat your milk on the stovetop to 150°F. Using your handheld frothing wand, foam your milk for about 20 seconds.
